The Custard Stand-Summersville opens along US Route 19

The Custard Stand Summersville Custard Stand Hot Dog ChiliLess than a month after making the announcement, The Custard Stand in Summersville is open for those craving an authentic West Virginia chili dog, a burger, fries, and a cone of soft serve ice cream.

The team worked hard to get the doors open before the Memorial Day holiday, said co-owner Angie Cowger. “Even without the big sign which is going up Friday, we have stayed busy,” she said. “We’ll hold a grand opening celebration in a few weeks.”

The Custard Stand-Summersville is in One Gateway Center. The restaurant is across from Walmart, in the strip behind Sheetz.

“The hours may change when the temperature drops,” says Alissa Clayton, the general manager at Summersville who also owns and manages The Custard Stand-Flatwoods.

The menu is quite similar to the Flatwoods restaurant, says Clayton. Two items longtime fans, as well as newcomers, will want to try:

  • Custard Stand Chili Soup with Beef and Beans, the latest from the Webster Springs-based Custard Stand Food Products. “It’s like the chili you make at home,” says Dee Cowger, who created the recipe and co-owns the Summersville location.
  • Premium vanilla custard, a rich, cold dessert similar to The Custard Stand’s soft serve ice cream. “The difference between the two creamy treats is that the premium custard includes eggs,” says Clayton.

The interior features the signature red-and-white retro vibe found in The Custard Stand restaurants in Elkins, Flatwoods, Oak Hill, and Webster Springs.
